rice-planting (May 30) We planned to grow glutinous rice in a rice paddy near our school, which one of our neighbors allowed us to use. We are bedding out young rice plants in the paddy by hand. This is our first try and some students are wearing socks in order not to be bitten by worms. |
rice-planting in the buckets
We also planted rice in the buckets on the same day. Some students planted too much. As the rice grows up, they will regret, saying, "I planted too much." or "My rice wants more earth for rooting."

Problems! (August 11)
The rice in the bucket looks good, with thicker leaves than those of the paddy. But the rice has not yet come into ear. Mika explains: It may be called High Temperatue Symptom. The bucket can cause high temperature.

At last!
After our summer vacation, the rice has begun to come into ear, which we were dying to see. Some students tasted its fruits and said, "Sw-e-e-t!"
|
But there have appeared some bad plants. We are afraid they've gotten sick. From now on, we'll have to study the diseases of rice, harmful worms and insects, and agricultural chemicals. |
(August 21)
The rice in the buckets are bad, while the paddy's one has grown up successfully. Little Takuya's grandma, who is our Paddy Teacher, satisfactorily says, "The bucket is no good, but the paddy is great!"(This is the paddy where Greg helped us to weed and get rid of gas.) |
