Children's Participatory Discussion "For a brighter future"

  • Feb 14th:
    • Discussion Participants: Arab and Jewish Israeli, Palestinian, and Japanese students from all over Japan.
    • Target Audience: Youth group leaders, volunteers, and educators interested in experience-based environmental education.

      14:00 Children's Panel Discussion (Part 1)
      "Can we reduce trash with recycle craftworks? Beyond the Use it Again! Project"

      This year WSN participants from all over the world have created "my bag" tote bags, instruments, as well as other works from discarded articles that can be reused. Children who have carried out similar activities will discuss whether trash was actually reduced, if they were able to spread awareness concerning trash, etc.

      15:45 Children's Panel Discussion (Part 2)
      "Wisdom in Food, Nature and People: Viewing food and farm through the environment and culture"

      WSN children have learned about the relationships between food and nature as well as the wisdom that people apply to such foods through themes such as, rice, olives, whale, and soba (buckwheat). During this session, children will discuss local food culture, their geographical and natural characteristics, as well as people's ways of thinking concerning food, based on their own experiences.

      *Students participating in discussions:
      Ha Yobel Junior High and Kfar Qassem Schools, Israel; Terra Sancta School, West Bank Palestine; students from Niigata, Tochigi, Tokyo, and Kyoto Japan.
      (At this time educators and adult audience will observe children's discussions and may be asked to comment about their activities.)
