After the visit for study of the cave, we enjoyed ourselves at the fishing place in the mountain river. We fished trouts and rainbow trouts. Be quick in taking photo, as I wish to do fishing. A trout was cahght by me. I caught a rainbow trout. Many rivers are stocked with lots of rainbow troutsu, but it does not matter.so as the troubles of black bass. I wonder why.
Comments from Students
The reseach in nature was performed by the members of Nature Research Club. First, we went to Hihara Stalactite Cave. From Okutama railway station, we reached the mountains by bus. Lots of natural views are found on the way. The total length inside the cave is rather long than I thought. I anticipated it would be about 100 meters, but to my surprise it is indicated as 800m. Furthermore, there are found very large spaces. The temperature inside is said 11 degree C. I felt rather cold with a short sleeve shirt. I learned that stalactite would take 200 years while it grew by 3 centimeters. Lots of one or ten yen coins are sticked on the ceiling of the caves. I wonder why. Then our tour ended with collection of aquatic insects. at Hihara river. Incidentally, I made a catch of rainbow trout only. At my next opportunity of visiting Okutma again. I will enjoy fishing in good earnest (A, 2nd year)

This time, our tour was made together with the members of "Water and Human"project for "integrated learning. In the stalactite cave, it was much cold. The stalactite in this cave is blackish and different from other caves. Believe or not, anyway, it is said that since the beginning of the Edo era, the visitors of the cave, especially the ascetics for the belief in the mountains, were accustomed to use torchlights for the guidance inside the cave. The original color of stalactite should have been milky white, but it turned sooty with such torchlights. In the cave, there is stalactite grotesquely(?) named as Jigokuiwa (Hell Rock) or so, although I am not quite sure of its name (???). Anyway, I stayed at the rock of such uncertain name for a while, then I proceeded to Benzaiten( I am not certain of its name either), where all the students gathered. On the way, I almost fell down several times, slipped on the stairs and hit stalactite with my head----I had a very hard time. Moreover, while I was taking lunch at the riverside, my chopsticks case dropped in the water and floated away, even though I was safe without any trouble at the playing time in the river. However, I was so entirely exhausted that I fell fast asleep. ( I, 2nd year)
