The Purpose of Children PointNovember 17, 2000
To realize the reginal merit through the study in that region and cultivate the sensibility towards environment. To foster ability to find "wisdom" for regional environment independently through the regional study based on hands-on experience. The region of Ashimori is blessed with nature but we thought it the important theme that students should learn life and things cultural like a row of houses and so on in terms of environmental study well.
We set the goal for children to study how wisdom has been incorporated in life for the purpose of being in harmony with environment. The teacher just suggested the point and left the activity to children. The study at the region made children full of life and was of help in order to deepen exchange with people there by asking questions as well. After returning to our school, we told about wisdom found each other and settled the study.The role Greg played at Children Point"Ashimori Junior High School"
Greg was the guide of exploring wisdom. It is children themselves that explore wisdom.Greg was kind enough to teach know-how to explore wisdom . Moreover, he made a strong impression on children by his making a trip all over Japan on foot. He also taught them there are many things good for environment and nice ones in each region. Then he gave dreams to children by the fact that he told about his experience of studying abroad from the U.S. as well.
The outcome of Children Point"Ashimori Junior High School"
They took part in exploring wisdom livelily. They learned the necessity of having fresh sense for exploring wisdom and know-how when asking people in the region and so on. This know-how will be of help in the study hereafter. They also realized there are many things nice such as nature and culture and so on in the region. I think this very important as to environmental study. I think they were satisfied with finishing the activity and their will to preseve the regional environment well were heightened.Comments from children
We found out much wisdom even in the region familar to us always. We had a nice time asking people there, studying it in details and being able to find wisdom eventually. We knew ancient people had much wisdom like the structure of house and the composition of tools.We are going to find various kinds of wisdom. Originaly we should have guided him but on the contrary Greg taught us many things. Greg,please go on travelling for exploring wisdom from now on ,too.Comments from Navigator Mr. Noto
Exploring wisdom was not a mere field activity but a regional study. In the region, there are much wisdom and treasure like nature and culture. The leader of finding that is children themselves. Greg was kind enough to advise know-how to find wisdom.
I think we could learn a lot of things among nature and culture of the region. I am going to make use of them for the environmental study hereafter by all means. Greg's visit made a good stimulus to our school as a whole. I think his visit motivated our teachers as well as our students toward the future study. We want to enrich the environmental study based on the region with Greg's trip for exploring wisdom (as an opportunity). We will make use of exploring wisdom this time as a method of study in the region and develop into classes of integrated learning. Nature and culture in the region are important materials on environmental study. We would like to pass materials in the region on to the activity followed carefully by the region as a whole.The advice to other navigator
It is important for schools and regions to be ready to receive, I think. Especially in the region, they have been getting ready introducing the meaning of Greg' trip mainly to parents positively preserveing environment and promoting their understanding. We conducted children's wisdom exploring successfully by such a supporting system.
Overview
Though it was our first practice for each, I think we could finish these with flying colors blessed with a circle of people. We wish the seed Greg left take root in children as well as the region and bear fruit. It is a problem for us how to develop experiences of exploring wisdom after this.
