This morning I was invited back to Toyoda Elementary School to participate in their television conference with Nishine Elementary School. Students shared with each other what they have learned through their studies about the Nagai City Rainbow Plan (see Wisdom report 071 and connect_wisdom 0188). Groups from both schools did not stop at simply passing on information. They went so far as to make a joint statement about how to promote the consumption of Rainbow Plan vegetables in Nagai City.

Students of Toyoda Elementary School sat nervously in front of the large television screen in their computer room. Today was their time in the limelight. It was a time to share with other students the results of their hard work.

During the 80 minute television conference Toyoda students explained how the Rainbow Plan actually functions as well as what they learned about the Rainbow Plan from Mr. Kanno. Nishine students taught Toyoda students the results of their trip to the Rainbow Plan morning market and a survey they conducted concerning the awareness of the Rainbow Plan. Information about the plan was thoroughly investigated by both groups.

I'll leave the explanation of the details about the television conference up to the students of Toyoda Elementary. What seemed most noteworthy to me is the fact that the students of both schools have agreed to pursue the promotion of Rainbow Plan vegetables. They agreed to work towards passing on a bit of wisdom they discovered in their own community.

Brainstorming about ideas to further promote Rainbow Plan vegetables, Toyoda Elementary children.

Given five minutes to discuss what can be done to promote the Rainbow Plan students from each school began brainstorming. At Toyoda Elementary hands were raised immediately. "We can make posters," said one student. "Pamphlets too," said another. "What about a television commercial?" The suggestions continued. "Advertisements." "Taste testing." "How about a book, 'It's okay to buy'." "You could make a billboard." "Homepage." Nishine students suggested that there be a special Rainbow Plan store and that Rainbow Plan consider home delivery. I was amazed by their creativity. From the long list of suggestions, students chose two things that are within their capabilities.

Deciding to make posters and pamphlets, students chose the following slogan. "Good for the body, no need to worry, tasty and freshc Rainbow Plan"

The students of both schools have found a treasure in Nagai's Rainbow Plan. One might even go so far as to say that they have discovered a bit of their community's wisdom. Children who will go so far as to take initiative and responsibility to spread this wisdom are amazing.

I wish them well. Please cheer them on in their endeavors.

Do any of you have suggestions for Toyoda students?

Last night I learned that early winter lightning storms are a sign of heavy snow. The forecast for tomorrow says the same. Beyond tomorrow's storm are more adventures-to- come in Oguni.
